Everybody may have an ambition. An ambition
gives meaning and purpose to life. What is life without ambition? A life without
ambition is like a rudderless ship. An ambition sets your goal and aim and
object. When the aim is clear, one can strive wholeheartedly to achieve it. Man
is an ambitious animal. His ambition distinguishes him from other animals, among
other things. Man sees dreams and then wants to realize them. Man can also be
called a dreaming being. Life is nothing without dreams and ambition. They lend
color, inspiration and power to our life and activity and are the basis of our
cultural, social and scientific developments.
Different people have different ambitions.
Some want to become political leaders, others engineers, doctors, businessmen,
managers or millionaires. There are others who want to become writers,
musicians, painters, dancers, journalists or photographers. It is good to have
ambition and see dreams but they should be realistic and achievable. Making
castles in the air is foolish. Ambition beyond one's reach leads to frustration
and regrets. One should be reasonable in one's ambition as far as possible.
People with exceptional qualities, will power and determination can dream of
even achieving the moon. Man's capacity to achieve anything is wonderful. For
man even the sky is not the limit, but it is in exceptional cases.
I belong to a middle class family and know my
limits. I know my aptitude and capacities. I don't want to become a general in
armed forces, a millionaire or business tycoon. My ambition is very modest,
practicable achievable ad useful. I want to become a successful teacher in a
school. I have reading habits and have a small library of my own. The books give
me a good company and increase my knowledge and skills of language and
communication. These will stand me in a good stead in future when I become a
teacher. I also like children and spend some time in playing and teaching them
when I am free from homework and studies. Teaching is in my blood. My late
father was a very successful and popular teacher. He was selfless, dedicated and
learned teacher always respected by his students, their parents and his
colleagues. I want to follow in his footsteps and emulate him.
After graduation, I shall complete my B.Ed
course and become a teacher. Good teachers are in great demand and not easy to
come by. Teaching is a specialized job and everybody cannot be a good and
successful teacher in spite of required paper qualifications. Teaching requires
that the man or woman on the post believes in high thinking and simple living,
that he or she is a committed person to the cause of students and education. A
greedy, overambitious, overbearing and lacking good moral character should never
think of becoming a teacher. Teachers are really nation builders and teaching
needs a lot of patience, perseverance, training, sense of dedication, service
and love for youngsters. A teacher has to be tolerant, receptive, forgiving,
studious and book loving. I think I have these qualities in good measure. I have
thought over the matter long and deep and then decided to become a teacher, a
true and genuine teacher.
The noble ideas, ideals and life of our
teachers are before me. They inspire me and fill me with hope, enthusiasm and
courage. I am fully aware of the difficult, hard and responsible life of a
school teachers and fully prepared for it. I know how hard a teacher has to work
without any good salary or financial benefits. But I shall keep my expenses
within reasonable limits and never want to become wealthy. My learning, wisdom
and education will be my real wealth which would increase manifold with its
distribution to the students. It would really give me a great satisfaction to
see my students grow tall in stature and wisdom. It is said that if you want
fruits and cool shade, grow trees. If you want humanity and wisdom, grow human
beings. I shall follow the second principle. I shall help the young students to
learn and imbibe high morals, ideals and principles. I shall be strong both in
body and mind, above all in character.
Soon the compulsory universal ad free primary
education will be there. It would require a great number of good and dedicated
teachers. I shall in my own humble way, try to fill this gap. There is scarcity
of teachers. Toppers, the cream of the students don't like the profession
because it is very low paid. There are not many avenues for advancement and
promotions. Even those who come in this noble profession use it as a stepping
stone to some other more profitable and lucrative job and leave it as early as
possible. They are ever in search of greener pastures. Teaching has become
synonymous with easy going, inefficiency, mediocrity etc and it pains me a lot.
I want that Pakistani teachers once again gain their lofty position in the
society by their hard work, honesty, sincerity, wisdom, learning and sacrifices.
Pakistan needs them urgently. People with aptitude, commitment and proper
qualifications should respond to this national call without thinking of personal
gains and benefits. Only such teachers can bring about a silent revolution of
regeneration and renaissance. They can help in eradicating illiteracy
superstitions and ignorance. They can become the harbingers of light, knowledge
and happiness.
